HI all,
I have just had to find a new web-host after mine inexplicably stopped responding (I mean the support team not the web-site he said after re-reading!). I resell hosting and after researching have got a new host and uploaded my and my customers various web-sites. This new server has a Spam Assassin with it at no cost.
This works by analysing the email content and headers and comparing them against a list of regularly updated rules. It is quite configurable and I have left it at default which is a 'score' of 5. It can be set to do one of two things either move all email marked as spam to a spam box only accessable via webmail or to mark the email in the subject as SPAM and then you can use your rules in your mail program to delete it. I have only had this for a few weeks yet and am still configuring it. One problem is of course that email that you want to receive is marked as spam. This is avoided as you can add that email address or domain name to a list that is not analysed for SPAM and therefore comes through unhindered..
I would recommend it definitely as a suitable free addition to web-sosting that is worth looking out for when choosing a host.
I am unfortunate enough to have been around for long enough to have most of my email addresses well established on the various spam lists so do not bother hiding my email address.
hiding my email address.
This is my hosting site not updated with new info yet.
