Why do it yourself?

One of my clients is a doctor who operates a 2 million dollar a year private practice. He wouldn't be able to build a website himself no matter how simple the tools were. It has only been a year or so since he got the email thing down.
This certainly isn't any reflection on his abilities as a doctor. He has bookkeepers, and office personal to do most of his computer work for him, so he never became real comfortable with a computer. He spent most of the time working with patients and growing his business into the success that it is.
I could fix my car myself. I don't. I take it to the garage, catch a ride home and work on my business. How many hours would I lose trying to fix it myself?
The last time I needed legal advice, I hired a lawyer.
I don't do my own books. That's what I have a book keeper for.
I want to put a deck on the upstairs of the house this Summer that over looks the Bay of Fundy. I can hammer nails in boards, but I think I will hire someone to build it for me.
(Interesting to note -- there are some really cool tools for building now too. You know, laser levels, electronic tapes, electric screw-guns and hammers.)
There are all kinds of reasons why people don't want to do everything themselves.
I think it is important for people to concentrate on building their business, and doing what they need to grow their business and look after clients and customers. Things like building websites, that doesn't directly contribute to their income (yes the website will be an added income source, but building it isn't) should be left to the professionals.
Best Regards,
