Although the spam accusation was rudely abrupt, according to Michaels previous interventions in this area, the accusation wasn't without foundation.

That product is actually just stating a very simple concept that gets repeated as basic advice time and time again (and has been for a long time) so I probably wouldn't agree with the hype(ish) way that you presented the link,

However it's a good technique (that's why I always recommend it) and works well, so I'm sure your recommendation was genuine.

You should be aware though that posts which are not in response to a question and recommend a product/service are quite often looked upon with skepticism and can generate the sort of response that your post got. Next time, although you might not think it necessary, it might pay to state beforehand that it's not a useless ad, but a genuine recommendation for a product which you think people should know about (even that might not do the trick, as some people will think it's a lie), better still - just post about a great technique you've found that others might like to look into and leave the link in the optional url rather than placing it in the post.
