I'd like to point out that from my earlier message that although I don't buy a lot of online material, I do quite a bit of reading off-line, that keeps me abreast of what is going on in my industry. This material doesn't have anything to do with being successful.
As for knowledge of marketing -- people are your greatest resource. If you ask the right person the right question, you will get information you can use. There have been a few very knowledgeable people who shared information with me about building an online business, way back when. The success I've experienced is directly related to this interaction.
The information was not presented to me as in a "matter of fact." The information was more conceptual, so it was up to me whether I listened and applied it. In all fairness someone else may have heard the same information and got exactly nothing out of it. You have to learn and be willing to "listen" and I don't think it matters so much how the information is presented to you.
