That's true ... but another important factor to consider is, "WHO" is recommending the product ?
There're a few respected marketers that I do trust (old Mike Green being one of them ;-) and if they do recommend something, then I know it's definitely worth something.
And, I think this is important too ... not every book will appeal to everyone ... meaning, if respected Marketer A recommends book X, and I buy it, I may not find it as useful/good as Marketer A.
Why ? A few reasons -
1) I may be browsing quickly through the book, instead of reading it thoughtfully.
2) I don't like the writing style (some prefer point-form, some prefer a more long-winded,story format)
So, if Marketer A says the book is good, and you beg to differ, that does not mean that marketer A is trying to hoodwink you into buying an inferior book (not trying to defend anyone here) ... but I've read one book last year, very highly recommended, but I thought it wasn't good (I didn't ask for a refund) ... but upon reading it the 2nd time, I find gems in it.
So, to summarize, ask yourself these questions before buying a product:
1) Do I need the product ?
2) AND, if I do buy, do I have the time to read and then IMPLEMENT what I read ?
3) WHO is recommending them ?
If the answer is no, then of course I won't. No point spending money and then let it collect "electronic dust" on my electronic bookshelf ;-)
If you do buy, then give it a chance to teach you something. Sometimes, a same principle shared from another angle could bring about the "aha !" to a problem you're trying to solve.
Just my 2 cents.
cheers,
Adrian
