Re: Ezines and Newsletters

Hi, everyone. My understanding is that popular usage of the term 'ezine' refers to an emailed newsletter or magazine, and 'newsletter' is the term more appropriate for mailed and printed communications.
Both have to be subscribed to and both may have a pop-up or web site sign up form. To send an ezine to someone who hasn't subscribed by signing up would be to send unsolicited email, i.e. spam.
To send out a mailed piece without permission, is simply to be sending junk mail. Somehow, junk mail is not perceived as intrusive and there are no laws against this.
Subscriptions are usually free for both when the professional is using communications as a means of marketing. However, when delivering information considered to be valuable, some professionals ask for a subscription fee.
Hope this helps!
