Frank,
From my testing I've found that there is a distinct advantage in putting your blog on your own server, rather than another domain.I started a blog at mysite.blogspot.com in mid August, and it is a PR2. It increased my traffic by about 100% from 35 visits a day to 75 a day by late November.
Then I installed a WordPress blog on my website, and in a week my traffic doubled. By the end of December I was getting 300 visits a day... that's up from 75 a day to 300 a day in 4 weeks.
Now it has just passed the 400 mark yesterday (452) The average unique visitors for Jan so far is 300 per day. The blog is off the main page... mysite.com/blog
That blog is a PR4, while the home page is only PR2, so I'm now building sites with a blog on the homepage.
I've explained it in fair amount of detail at my new website, where the blog is the index page of the site... this site is very raw, only registered on boxing day, and went live on the 27th December. Currently getting almost 100 visitors a day. That should increase significantly tomorrow due to this post I guess, which will throw the averages out a bit, but I'm confident that this new website will be getting 200+ unique visitors a day by the end of January.
To find out what I'm doing to get those figures, you'll need to go to my site. When there read through the blog entries, and then click the "articles" on the menu to view the content pages on the domain. You'll find links to my older site where I discovered all this.
If you follow what I explain to you in my Blog, you'll have the same success.
Russell.
