Opinions on the Can spam Act

It started last week, just a couple of mails mentioning the can spam act, and a couple of links for further info.

As far as I can see (don't shoot me if I'm wrong :p) if people opt out of your "brand" then that means forever and ever and even if an affiliate sends them a mail including/promoting your "brand" then you are the one held responsible for it??

Is anybody worried? Does anybody have any ideas how to work with this? Are we all just waiting and telling ourselves "it won't happen"? Or maybe we just can't believe the implications of something like this?

Interested in hearing your thoughts on it.
