Affiliate marketing works hmmmmmm, well if you have substantial traffic visiting your site - then yes, I suppose it might work. But it would need to be a considerable amount of traffic for it to be worth setting up in the first place. You would need thousands and thousands of visitors per month, for it work.
There are just too many affiliates doing this, or did you think it was just a few thousand involved? Also the research involved in any affiliate deal is too much for most to take on. The affiliate company would expect you to advertise the free site or get people to a product site, which is expensive and beyond most people's idea of what's really involved in advertising this. People jump into these things expecting overnight success, big cash flow, and it's all such trash, it really is some pipe dream, built and fuelled by greed and emotion.
Are you really willing to sink your cash into this venture - that's what you have to ask.
Okay, there are different products and types of affiliate & reseller deals, and one would hope you avoided the dodgy ones, but even then it's going to be such damn hard work, just to make a few hundred. If it was that easy to make a million from it - everyone in the world would be a millionaire, wouldn't they.
Why do you think people have jobs? hmmmm, er, probably as the risk of setting up any business is too great, even for the web. Well, I hope it works out for you, and if it does make you a million or whatever glamorous lifestyle this fuels, I should be seeing you in some business publication very shortly, along with press interviews and maybe the odd chat show or documentary.
