hmmmmm. I don't have to know Chip to know that anything placed on the web, or sent by newsletter is going to be read by people who have no connection with him or his family.
These people are strangers - correct?? Put it this way, would you just hand over your cash, because an obituary was written? I'm not saying that it's untrue, or that he can't raise funds, just the way he's gone about it, is wrong - that's all.
These are my observations:
The mail is very spammy, and stinks of a friendship type letter (he does call me a friend!), maybe along the lines of those friendship bracelets kids give each other. The fact this arrived in my inbox, clearly proves he's engaged in a mass mailing campaign, and is targeting anyone and unrequested I might add.
This reveals he's asking for or expecting major cash, and doesn't care who it comes from. It will be interesting to see if he sends a Thank You, letter to everyone who got his email, or who have paid a donation. Those that have paid, (and the figures are too hard to calculate) may be wondering how their money will be spent, as the surplus of funds could easily pay for whatever specialist flight service is used. Therefore, I would expect any unused funds to be returned. But even if the body is shipped, cannot possibly justify the potential cash he could get from this campaign, and it is a campaign my friend!
And why doesn't Chip write the email himself - what's this other bloke Michel Fortin got to do with it. I understand Chip broke his collar bone? Well that shouldn't interfere with his hands and fingers then. But anyway, in his letter this Michel Fortin wrote, says the funds raised are to fly the body to Delaware - okay, but then household costs have to be met too. And the letter ends with Chips business site urls.
If this wan't intended to be a marketing/business letter - why does Michel or Chip need to list their businesses in a obituary type email (if that's what it was). Is it an obituary, or is it business mail - infact lets call it both shall we. Make your mind up Michel, I'm a little confused here.
Paying for a flight, even with transportation of a coffin, funeral costs etc can't be beyond $15K let's say. So Chip is not only asking for those costs to be donated, he wants others to pay his house bills too. Why the hell should I (a complete stranger) pay his living costs!! Does that mean I can move in as well.
That's just taking the Pee. And you guys think that's a perfectly normal request do you lol.
Anyway, moving on:
The whole cash raising campaign could have been done in a more appropriate fashion, and fitting with a more mourning feeling. Say, donations at the funeral is one way of raising cash, as a token gift.
As for the emails, I'm not so sure that using emails was a good idea of drawing attention to someone's death. As I said before - highly inappropriate for someone who has just died, as this whole thing has been done in a marketing type way.
