Here's what I recommend:

1. Search engine positioning. It pays to hire a reputable specialist to do this. If you have a good one on your team, he/she will make you money.

2. Getting active in discussion boards like this one. Don't just post messages touting your own product or service. Help others solve their problems by answering questions, and finishing your post with a signature file that cleverly promotes your services.

3. Publish an e-zine. I figure that it takes a "critical mass" of 1,000 subscribers before you can make a significant number of sales. But, if your material is good, you'll wind up with a lot more than 1,000 people on your list.
