Usually I search for an image on the internet using one of the many image banks available. Some are free and some paid.

Since the image is only ever going to display onscreen, the resolution of the picture does not need to be detailed. In other words, a picture shown as a "comp" can be sufficient quality to use onscreen. These are generally cheap or free.

Always use JPG's for photograph images.

As someone else has already said - even a great cover won't "flog" a bad product! But a bad cover will prevent a good product from selling!

For me the learning curve with eCover Generator was about 10 minutes, so it was worth the investment.
