I have a little insight for you...
If a company has a product you can retail that is consumable and resonably priced (meaning you cannot easily order it online for a lot less) with a high demand then it is worth persuing...
Companies that hype and push the matrix - recruit your sister garbage over the value of their products are those that have no foundation to stand on.
Stay away from any company that forces you to consume the product via an autoship program or purchase more than you can comsume to qualify for a higher commission level.
Stay away from companies that focus 90% of on the recruiting of distributors and 10% on the sale of a quality product...
The law in all 50 states says that 70% of your income must be based from direct sales of the product and only 30% can be from the recruitment of distributors. Although this law is rarely used against individual distributors it is the law and can give you a good standard to measure a company against.
Fact: I have recruited thousands in multiple companies. I have made lots of $ in network marketing. I have trained thousands directly via email, teleconference, and my websites in recruiting and direct sales. I know how to enter a company and turn a profit from day 1.
Fact: The mlm industry leaves a long trail of bodies... those who have had their dreams dashed and been cash bled to death. I don't like to see anyone hurt for the gains of others and many companies live and breath destructive hype.
Fact: The bulk of the opportunities you see advertised on the internet today are not legit. There is a bit of the wild west in mlm on the internet so caveat emtor.
Fact: I don't really care too much if people value my opinion on the subject or not... I have experienced success and failure in MLM I have been involved in it and done enough legal research to know my way around the industry.
Fact: There is more money to be made quicker in developing your own products, services, promoting residual two tier affiliate programs, or starting your own network marketing company (better be legal savvy) than marketing other MLM programs for 5% 15% 20% (there are some good compensation plans out there that pay as much as 50% on the first two tiers but you have to look long and hard to find them.
Fact: Most people in MLM have not made a significant amount of money in the industry.
The truth is that in any industry the product must be consumable and their must be more tribal members than chiefs... in mlm you will be told you can become a chief but very few ever do... they may tell you that you are already a chief... how much was the check they sent you last month? Was it more than you paid to join the tribe?
The fortunes are made on the backs of the consumers.
Fact: The majority of mlm star ups and downline clubs become obsolete, fold, or just plain dissappear in 5 years or less... most much less.
Be wise. What more can I say?

P.S. If it was not for Amway you would not have MLM. Also be aware that Amway and the Association of Direct Marketers are the ones that have gone to bat shelling out millions in legal fees to keep MLM viable... it is court decisions that have come out of federal cases against Amway and other large MLM companies that set the legal precedent that governs the network marketing industry.
It is better to educate people about the reality of this market rather than blather on about "crushing people's dreams." I dream of flying like a bird with no manufactured help but that is only possible in my dreams. There are a lot of business structures in MLM that are mechanically flawed and destined for failure regardless of how many dreamers are carrying the burden.
There are a few quality companies out there but quality and value is not the standard in MLM so you need to research out the company you go with as well as the product line, pricing, and compensation structure...
I still recommend creating your own products and services and promoting two tier programs over MLM any day of the week.
