What I would have done...

Geoff,
Congratulations on realizing early on what
you'd like to do. Bravo! For the most part
colleges teach you how to be a good "worker-bee"
and "corporate drone". Yes, I know there are
exceptions. With that said, I still would not
have missed my college years for the world.
(Wow - I can't believe I graduated 7 years ago) :)Marketing (direct marketing - the kind that
counts) really comes down to applied human
psychology and math (not the hard kind). You
need psychology so you can understand how to
ethically and professionally persuade people
you are giving such a great value to hand over
their credit cards. And the math part is know if
you're losing or making money -and when to roll
out. That's why I would have majored in psychology
if I had the chance to do it again. I got my
B.S. from marketing from a top 25 business school
and let me tell you, I don't use any of the "4-Ps"
or anything like what they taught me there. Also, if you'd really like to jump-start your
success I recommend getting/listening to
Earl Nightingale's "The Strangest Secret" - now
available at Amazon. Listen to that dozens of
times. And start reading some of the old
advertising greats - Ogilvy, Caples, Hopkins,
Sackheim, Schwab, etc. Most are also available
from Amazon.Good luck,
Yanik Silver
