I agree too...
If just a simple photograph of yourself can improve sales (so I've heard by many marketers who have tested this) a whole section about yourself will help too :)
When writing about yourself you can choose between posting a kind of biography (I did this, I worked here, Me, I, I do...not very exciting for the reader who mainly cares about himself) or to write *why* should your visitors and potential customers trust you.
Instead of just telling who you are, one should focus on *why* you are to be trusted, *why* I should buy from you rather than your cyber-neighbour, what is it that makes you different from your competitors and gives you a *unique* position in the field.This way you can be sure of not wasting cyberspace with the usual boring biography that no one finishes reading, and instead use the "About Me" section to improve your positioning and distinguish yourself from the rest of the lot :)
