Hi Roger,
My name is Sam Stephens, I'm the creator of CB Download Manager (that Andy Beard mentioned earlier in this thread - thanks Andy!): www.cbdownloadmanager.com
CBDM can fix the problem you have by checking to make sure that your customer has been through the payment process before allowing them access to your file. This means that even if your download page is shared around, or posted to a public forum (which does happen!), the would be theif can't download your product.
It also has a bunch of other features such as expiring download links, list building, etc. All the stuff you'd expect in a download management system.
It currently supports Clickbank, Paypal, 2Checkout, Free products, JVManager, and with the next release very shortly will also support Stormpay and Ebay digital product sales.
And as you mentioned, the user will never see the actual URL from where the product came from, and their own link will expire, so sharing it is not an option either.
Let me know if you have any questions about it!
cheers
