It's not unusual for affiliate managers to let
affiliates buy products with their own affiliate
code and it's perfectly acceptable as long as
there is not an original affiliate who loses out.Take for example my product page at
http://www.supertips.com/cl/sales/affiliate.htmwhere you will see that I actively encourage
affiliates to do this because I know that they can
only reach this page from my own promotion efforts
and not from one of my affiliates. Now if someone, reading this now for example, pays
a visit simply to purchase at half price without
intending to be an affiliate I'm not bothered. I
don't regard it as losing half the cost, instead I
am gaining from someone who was unlikely to come
to my site in the first place. And the advantage is that an affiliate who owns a
product is better able to promote it by, for
example, explaining how he benefits from it.So here is a case when you do want to ensure that
you will get commission for the sale, so checking
the affiliate/merchant code on the order page is
essential because ClickBank have recently changed
the rules as to who gets the commission. Also Pearson has stated 'who cares if it breaks
the terms of our agreement with Clickbank'.What agreement is this ? I can't find any mention.
In fact I would argue the reverse: ClickBank allow
you to sign up as an affiliate to any product from
their MarketPlace, another case where you would
want to check that you have inserted the correct
code.Harvey
