There is a simple alternative if you know a bit of PHP
You can simply put a PHP header into your page which includes a password. This password cannot be seen by anyone and of course you can set whatever password you want - ideally use jumbled letters/numbers, they are virtually impossible to crackWhen anyone tries to "guess" the page where your downloads are linked - they obviously wont have the password and therefore they are instantly redirected to the home page. There is no "redirecting in 5 sec" message or anything similar - the page simply refuses to load and redirects instantly
The other thing to watch out for is that where ever your download link page is - this doesnt stop someone downloading the file if they know the location of the actual download file. However you could protect the ZIP file by adding a password that must be entered before the ZIP file can be unpacked
