With the time you spend trying to set up something that is only slightly secure, you're probably better off simply buying an off-the-shelf solution that really will keep your downloads secure.
A well integrated site also impresses your customers and can lead to repeat business.
Remember that your customers will judge the quality of your business and your product on the quality of your website and purchase process.
