Hello Michael,
it's nice to see your projects going on at full speed :)I've never seen similar products about how to build a forum. I've read countless times how *having* a forum on your website can be useful to generate traffic, generate new content for SE, help build a community sense and so on... but not one of these resources ever explained what to do or even where to start :(
Also there are plenty of "technical" pages about how to *script* a forum, or how to build and configure one, but not really many about where to get the best software, how to build popularity, what approach should be preferred for handling spam, ads and complaints, or how to make it a *different* and new forum (not just another copy of the same forums that can be found elsewhere).
Even just a directory of the websites which offer Forum scripts or forum hosting services isn't easy to find (you might know something about it ;)
Other than our old dear Google I don't know of many other lists of forum resources, or selection of forum scripts...It would be nice to read about the real difference between forum, bulletin board, newsgroup and all the rest of the bunch; what etiquette one should mantain to avoid being banned or flamed, how and when multiple posts among different places are allowed or justifiable, what kind of advertsing policy do the different groups or categories follow...
Also the moderator's job should be clearly detailed, so to show that it isn't always an easy job (especially on a successful forum). Speaking about moderators it would be nice to see the pros and cons of having a moderated (or not) forum, and how the choice of the moderators could determine the quality of the forum's posts...
There are lots of topics to cover and lots of things to write about - I think this will be a very interesting product!
Have a great time developing it :)
Cheers,
Saul
