Hey...
This is really just a venting message...so if you want to close it now by all means please do so ;o)
As a newsletter publisher I receive several emails a day asking for me to participate in a JV with someone. I read these obviously, because I am always looking for something that is of good quality value that I can pass onto my readers. Something that will HELP them (not bleed them)in their eBusiness. Or additional ways to leverage my marketing efforts.
For those of you who are in the process of creating an info product and are looking at ways to get the word out through JVs...a word (or a 1000) to the wise:
1. DON'T ask a publisher to recommend your product to their list without giving them a copy to review first. People seem to have this perception that publishers are after the almighty dollar only. Well, here's a news flash for you. I worked hard to gain the reputation(as do other publishers) that I have with my list(s) yes, I am a business person just like anyone else and I am in business to make money. However, my reputation is far more important to me than any 30% commission that you are offering me on just your say so that your product is the wholy grail. If you want me to play ball...then give me a sample so I can write a proper recommendation. Otherwise...your JV proposal gets trashed.
2. Perhaps if you took a little time to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX and come up with an innovative JV instead of what everyone else is doing...you would stand a better chance. It amazes me that someone who is offering a product that talks about "JVs" can't come up with a better JV themselves...what does that tell you right off the bat???
3. Personalize and follow up. We all can spot a "form" email a million miles away. Go into any ezine directory and you will find all kinds of newsletters that target your market and say something like
"I took a trip to your site ProfitSpace and I was very impressed Your ezine looks very professional and a great match with my customers and visitors :-)"
No kidding...you don't need to be a rocket scientist to know that. You also don't need to be one to know that of course this is a form email.
Ok...I think I vented enough. If you"re still here, hey thanks for reading ;o)
