Hello Peter,
You asked if it's a good idea to create your cover yourself...
Well, sure enough you can go ahead and do this, there's plenty of
resources out there to help you, from software to create the 3d
rendering of your cover to advise and tips on the design itself.However...
There are two vital ingredients you would be missing out on and that's
experience and an understanding of how to communicate all the right
things in all the right places at just the right time. The difference between a cover you create and and one created by
someone with the experience and understanding of visual communication
can be the difference between 1 and 10 sales, downloads or subscriptions. So the question is are you prepared to take this "do it yourself route"
when a professional can do it for you and get you to where you want
to go quicker and more profitably? In my 3 years online I've seen so much "trash" design out there it's
just not true, I've also seen some pretty nasty looking covers that
have been created by people calling themselves "professionals" when
clearly they weren't.So it's also important to have a good sense that what you're looking
at has been created by someone with the experience and knowledge
needed to gain those extra sales you're looking for.At the end of the day whether you choose to create the cover yourself
or hire a professional is not really that important. What's important is
gaining those extra sales that you're looking for... the quickest and
surest way of achieving this is to hire a professional.I hope this helps,
Brian Terry
